Rain, Rain Go Away

It has been so rainy in Haiti! It's rained almost everyday for over two weeks now. Seeing as I drive an ATV and have no roof over me, its kinda hard to get around in this kind of weather. Atleast all the crops are doing really good!
School starts on Monday. I am very anxious to see all of the little kids again.

This little boy got extra creative and used oranges as wheels for his car.

Dale Hollow with the Neals

While I was home, we took the Neal family down to our houseboat. It was just like old times! Claire and I making s'mores on the shore.
The four kids: me, Claire, Jen, and Travis.

Pictures from our Corn Toss tournament on top of the boat...

Claire and Dad were the winners. I apparently need to work on my corn toss. I lost both nights and ended up having to do the dishes!

Dale Hollow

Rebecca, a college friend, drove all the way from Kansas City to spend some time with us on the houseboat. It had been a few summers since she'd been able to come, so she was way overdue for a fun weekend on the lake.

Getting a quick picture before dinner...

Lexi

So here is the newest addition to our family, our Golden Retriever Lexi. I am so glad I got to meet her while she was still a puppy. She has the cutest personality and is lots of fun. When I was home, she was really into chasing butterflies and still getting used to her own bark. (After she'd bark, she'd look around real quick to see where the noise came from.)

Kids Camp

Last week, we had our second kids camp of the summer out at Camp de la Grace. We had 205 kids come from smaller communities outside of Pignon. It was really something to see some of these young kids arrive with their bags on their heads having walked for several miles.

My Goddaughter

Here's Annabelle at 4 months old. You can't tell in the picture, but she's getting sooo chubby. She has all of these rolls of baby fat. I don't think she's been missing any meals...

Got Milk?

These kids come for a glass of powdered milk each morning. They always end up with milk mustaches. I think they would do a great job posing for those Milk advertisements.

The Downham's in Haiti

Jen with her new little friend, Keleen.
For the last few months of school, the boys had been kicking around a totally deflated soccer ball that had a big gash in it. They were very excited when my dad brought some new balls for recess.

My dad helping Nan (a little neighbor) tie her dress. Nan, who is terrified of all white people, loved my dad. He is so good with kids!

My family and I posing with some of the preschoolers on the steps up to my house.

The Downham's in Haiti

This mother and daughter, (TaTa and Nelta) and the daughters' son live in the house pictured below.
They have been living in this house which has NO doors. The two of them built the house on their own using mud and sticks. While my family was visiting, we were able to get two doors made for their them. They are such sweet people and very hard workers.

Two Boiler fans!

My mom and sister bought dresses for my neighbors. This is the family that lives right behind me. The kids ran inside and put on their new clothes for this picture.

I'm back

Wow, it has been almost two months since I've posted any pictures. I know I've been slacking, but I'm also going to blame it on the lack of electricity and lack of internet. My friends who are faithful blog readers have all said they are tired of seeing the boy up in the palm tree ;) I'm gona try to do better.
This summer has been fun, hot, and busy. My family came down for a week to visit in June. It was the first time for my dad and sister Jenny and the third trip for my mom... Even though school is out, I've still been doing someteaching. I'm doing an English class for the 4th and 5th graders in the mornings. They are so much fun and truly love learning... And, right now I'm in the States for two weeks. Time has flown by and I can't believe I leave in two days! Pictures of fun summer stuff to follow....
